Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Embraces Sustainability with Rooftop Solar Plant in its Haridwar Warehouse

Contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is making a large stride towards a greener and more sustainable tomorrow. The company has successfully installed a 600 kWp grid-connected rooftop solar power plant on its warehouse premises in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

Spread across a 56,000 sq. ft. region on the rooftop, the solar plant is expected to produce more than 7.5 lakh units of solar energy annually, leveraging optimal sunlight exposure for five hours daily. With this project, the company anticipates to save over INR 50 lakh on electricity usage per annum, amounting to huge savings on energy expenditure while preserving the environment. Moreover, the environmental benefits of this project are substantial—equivalent to conserving over 10,000 trees annually.

Commenting on the development, Sandeep Jain, Managing Director and Founder of Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. said, “The successful commissioning of our rooftop solar power plant is a significant step towards our path to sustainability. This project will assist in lowering energy expenses, reducing our carbon footprint, and promoting a greener tomorrow. Akums continues to be committed to embracing green practices in our operations and helping India achieve its sustainability objectives.”

This project marks a significant milestone for Akums in its ongoing commitment to a cleaner, greener future.

Beyond its solar energy initiatives, Akums has taken steps toward ecological stewardship by planting over 5,000 trees in 2024 and aiming to plant 10,000 more in 2025. It is also actively contributing to the Clean Ganga Mission by tackling plastic pollution and safeguarding water resources.

With a footprint across seven Indian states, 15 manufacturing facilities, and five R&D units, Akums continues to push boundaries in pharmaceutical manufacturing while maintaining an eco-conscious approach. The company reported a turnover of INR 4,212 crore in FY 2024–25.
