Mehta Pharmaceuticals unit at Chheharta, producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) from herbal extracts, has rendered over 100 of its employees jobless. The company has only one API manufacturing left in this segment.

According to the company, regulatory issues were extreme which did not give enough space to the market needs.

The category of API from herbal extracts comes under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act and depends upon herbs sourced from the Himalayas, forests of Madhya Pradesh and Southern peninsular India.
