Formulated Solutions, a Florida CDMO focussed on consumer healthcare solutions, reached an agreement to purchase a former Merck & Co and Bayer manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Tennessee, for an undisclosed sum.
Most recently, the updated 455,000-square-foot plant had been operated by Germany’s Beiersdorf, which makes personal care products such as the Coppertone sun lotion brand.
The 60-acre, FDA-approved facility has seen many improvements in the past five years. Its expanded product capabilities include the blending of liquids, semi-solids and suspensions. Its packaging capabilities span flexible tubes, liquid-fill bottles and metered dose sprays.
Bayer took over the facility as part of its $14.2 billion acquisition of Merck’s consumer care business in 2014. The plant also had a stint of ownership by Schering-Plough.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility employed 458 workers. Formulated Solutions didn’t disclose the number of workers it plans to employ at the site.
