Walden Group, a healthcare logistics player across Europe, has announced its official entry into the Italian market through the acquisition of two prominent Italian companies: XCM Healthcare and Unitex.
This move marks a significant expansion for Walden Group, driven by its ambition to tap into Italy's robust pharmaceutical sector, renowned for its expertise in research and development, particularly in the biotech field.
Italy, with its 2.4 percent share of the global drug consumption market, has long been a target for Walden Group. The acquisition of XCM Healthcare, a healthcare logistics firm, and Unitex, specializing in temperature-controlled last-mile delivery for the healthcare sector, solidifies Walden's presence in the country's pharmaceutical supply chain.
Stéphane Baudry, President of Walden Group, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration stating, "I am thrilled to announce what we have achieved together; we share the same values and entrepreneurial mindset with the Marzano family and the CEO Gaetano Colella. This was certainly a key element in the decision to merge our companies."
With recent expansions in Romania and Germany, Italy becomes the third European country where Walden Group has extended its operations within a year, showcasing the company's ambitious growth trajectory.
Unitex's robust transportation network, strategically positioned across Italy, will be integrated into Eurotranspharma, Walden's subsidiary specializing in last-mile pharmaceutical solutions. This integration will enable Eurotranspharma to expand its services to ten European countries, offering comprehensive and reliable delivery solutions to pharmacies, hospitals, wholesalers, and healthcare providers.
Simultaneously, XCM Healthcare's expertise in healthcare logistics will enhance Movianto, Walden's core healthcare logistics solution, already operational in twelve European countries. Movianto's comprehensive supply chain management solutions, tailored for sensitive healthcare products, will now extend to Italy, providing manufacturers with end-to-end logistics support.
Commenting on the acquisition, Baudry emphasized the collaborative efforts between Unitex, XCM Healthcare, and Walden Group in implementing Eurotranspharma and Movianto solutions in Italy. "The recently completed acquisition marks the first step in our development in Italy. We are excited to collaborate with the Unitex and XCM teams to start the implementation of Eurotranspharma and Movianto solutions in Italy. I'm confident that we will achieve outstanding results, considering the expertise of the Unitex and XCM teams, combined with our international presence in Europe, which contributes to a deep understanding of the global market and experience in different business management models," he said.
While expanding its footprint in Europe remains a priority, Walden Group remains flexible and open to seizing opportunities in new healthcare markets beyond Europe. With a focus on delivering value to customers and leveraging their global market understanding, Walden Group is poised for continued growth and success in the healthcare logistics sector.
